BSAC NEWS JULY 1999 Volume 17 Number 7 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NEWS IN THIS ISSUE: President's Message Last Meeting's Minutes Treasurer's Report BSAC Living Memorial Auction #2 You Might be a Model Car Nut If Neat Websites Classifieds Coming Events and the rest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE BSAC Members, BSAC is on-line! This announcement was made last month, and I see there have been links recently added. By the time you read this, I hope to have sent Mr. Dillion some photos for posting on our web site. This is GREAT! We owe Tom Dillion a big thanks for dealing with the web site. A lot of the time and effort is in that site, so thanks Tom, and keep up the good work! All BSAC members should attend the July 1st meeting due to the upcoming Good Guys event. We will be manning the model car contest table three days instead of the original one and volunteers are needed! Sign up at the July meeting for working at the event. Carl has put in his time, effort, and a bit of frustration for the benefit of BSAC members. This should be an enjoyable event for us, as most of us never see each other outside of the monthly meeting. Speaking of street rods, that's the theme for the July 1st meeting. BSAC Living Memorial Auction is also scheduled, so this should be a lively meeting. See you then for an 8:00 prompt start! Dave Clutter President ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LAST MEETING'S MINUTES By Bob Mako Dave Clutter opened the meeting at about 8pm. Gary gave Treasurer's report. He also mentioned that his father became seriously ill shortly after the May meeting and had been in Riverside Hospital since. Mr. Omen is in serious condition with one illness leading to another. Gary's family has been spending a lot of time staying with him. Carl Rees had not been in contact with the Goodguys regarding the contest and so had nothing new to report. Carl initiated a discussion regarding the feasibility of BSAC hosting another NNL type event the weekend of the Goodguys in 2000, realizing that it is too late to do anything this year. He reminded everyone of the fun we had hosting our past get togethers' and that it might be nice to plan another. He would like to see us get together with other clubs, if possible and hosting an NNL would be a good way to do so. Everyone agreed that it would be nice to do but saw a problem with regards to a location. Deke was given the floor and he mentioned that the Goodguys model contest was mentioned in the newsletter of the Y-City Modelers and that BSAC was handling it. That's it for the meeting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THANK YOU! Thanks go to Bob Mako for recording the minutes of the last meeting for me. Also, thanks to Dave and the rest of you for your kind comments regarding the creation of BSAC website. I hope to continue updating it on a regular basis. I hope to post some great photos, contributed by Sean Svendsen by the meeting. And, as always, I am open to your suggestions and constructive criticisms regarding the website because it is for all of us. Note: This issue of the newsletter will be the first e-mailing to those members who have an e-mail address. I will also be sending a copy through the regular mail just in case you don't receive the online issue. Please let me know if you receive the online issue or not - Tom ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONGRATULATIONS Theme winner was Gary Omen with a '59 Bonneville Salt Flats Racer. You try to get to the hobby shop at least twice a week "Just to Look"? 2. You have a matched set of mag wheels in a box in your dresser drawer (with the ties and the cuff links) that you have been saving for the chance to use them on that "really nice model" you keep planning to build? 3. You have gone to Toledo and had to borrow money? 4. You keep Band-Aids on your work bench for X-acto knife cuts? 5. You watch "American Graffiti" just to get the colors right? 6. You have ten boxes of spare parts; but you can go to the right box the first time to find that perfect "Old Part" for whatever you're working on? 7. You have at least ten rare kits that you hang on to, even though you could sell them for big money, just because you're "Planning to Build Them" someday? 8. You have to cut up a rare kit for a project or even borrow a part, which makes you grumpy for a week? 9. You have one can of spray paint that you have never used because you're afraid you won't see the color ever again? 10. You go to train shows and doll shows just to look for old model cars? 11. You put decals in your mouth because you don't want to stop what you're doing to go get water? 12. You go to fabric stores with your wife and look for seat belt material and wiring? 13. You still kick yourself for passing up that "Ala Kart" kit at the Woolco Department Store for just a $1.00 thirty years ago? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NEAT WEBSITES...
