PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
BSAC,
Well, as 1999 comes to an end, so does my reign as President of BSAC. It's
been fun. Sometimes I wonder what to write about in this column, but I always
came up with something! I bet the next president can put together PAGES of
president's messages with no problem!
The next year of BSAC looks like it should be fun, especially with the model
car show that seems to be taking off so well. I, speaking for BSAC, want to thank
everyone in BSAC for helping with the meetings, newsletter, and events. Your
participation is what makes the club thrive.
I believe a new achievement has happened with a BSAC member. Members
have had models on the cover and in the pages of model magazines, but I don't
think anyone has had a two-page article about their models in print before. Our
own Carl Rees was honored by Evan Hermel in the pages of Scale Auto
Enthusiast (no. 127). Six of Carl's trucks were pictured and described. I was truly
stunned when I saw the article! But I was not at all surprised, as everyone in
BSAC knows what outstanding work Carl does. Carl, you deserved this article
about your models, 'cause you da man!
I want to thank everyone for letting me be your president this past year. We
finish the year with the Christmas meeting at Gary's house. Bring all of the 1999
ribbon winners to the meeting for the model of the year judging. A big thanks
goes out to Gary and his family for their hospitality! See ya at the meeting.
Happy Holidays To All!
Peace
President Dave Clutter
LAST MEETING’S MINUTES
by Bob Mako, former and future Secretary and Newsletter Editor (tell me again,
why did I agree to this????).
President Dave Clutter opened the meeting of the Buckeye Scale Auto "Gang"
(by definition, we qualify as "gang").
Gary Omen, Treasurer, President-Elect, author, host and all-around great guy
provided his usual "brief" report.
It was noted, for the record, that Tom Dillion was not present. The membership
was wondering if anyone was going to take the minutes. Informed them that I was
one step ahead of them.
Carl provided a brief report on the status of the flyers for the Goodguys show.
He didn't think that too many of them left the table.
Finally, before adjournment, it was decided that Gary Omen had the enormous
task of keeping us all happy by deciding the kit to be used for next years Same Kit
Night. Lets see, he gets to decide which kit, out of several hundred, will inspire
everyone to participate and actually build a kit.
In the immortal words of Porky Pig, "TTTHHHAAts All Folks!"
BSAC WEBSITE
By Tom Dillion
One of my goals during these past two years was to create a website for our
club. I did manage to do this, but the job is not complete. During this past month I
added many new links to other websites and added photos of Brett Ivan's '64/'70
Dodge Super Bee to the website. If it's all right with all of you, I would like to
continue working on the website for at least for another year. I know it could have
more bells and whistles put into it, but I would like to at least finish the basics. I
would also like to continue providing the "Neat Websites" article for the newsletter,
but that will be up to Bob.
Several Members voiced at the October meeting that they were unable to get
to our club website. I sent e-mail including the address of the website, but only
received a small response to the e-mail. So, here is the address of the website:
http://bsac.topcities.com
Since I was unable to attend the November meeting, would you please let me
know at the meeting if you are able or unable to get to the website. Thanks.
While I have your attention, I would like to thank the Officers for 1999, Dave
Clutter, Frank Belcastro (did anyone actually see him? I thought I saw him at
the gas station last weekend. He was talking to Elvis…) and Gary Omen for a
job well done! I would also like to thank the whole membership for all the help you
have provided to me in putting this newsletter together for the past two years.
Sometimes, if it hadn't been for you, the newsletter would not have made it. I would
like to give special thanks to Bob Mako and Dick Lehman for filling in for me to
record the meeting minutes and to Gary Omen who almost had an article in every
issue. Again, thank you all and I wish good luck to Officers for the new Millenium.
See you at the meeting and if I forget to say it at the meeting, have a Merry
Christmas and have Safe Happy New Year!
Tom...
CONGRATULATIONS
The Same Kit Night Theme winner was Gary Omen with his '95 Camaro Nomad.
Gary's was quite a creative and realistic version of the Camaro.
The Miscellaneous Theme winner was also Gary with his weathered replica of
a friend's '85ish El Camino. Again, a nice job by Gary of recreating an everyday
driver from pictures.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Tim Fox.
Congrats go to Carl Rees for getting his truck models featured in "Truck Stop"
column written by Evan Hermel in the January 2000 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast
magazine! Five of Carl's trucks and one bus were featured. Check it out guys, if you
haven't done so already. What a way to start out the millenium.
Congrats go to Brett Ivan for his '64/'70 Dodge Super Bee. It was chosen by Tim
Boyd as one of the Top Ten at the 20Th N.N.L. Nationals. The car was
also photographed by Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine. His Car also won 2nd in the
Masters Class and Best Engine at Zanesville's Y-City Contest held in October.
(Thanks Deke for the report and the photos - Editor).

RANKLINMINT.COM
The collector's Choice
http://www.franklinmint.com/
This website features many of the collectibles available from Franklin Mint. Of most interest to us are their Die Cast cars and trucks. The website features many pictures of the Die Cast cars and trucks for our viewing pleasure. Of course, each piece is available online for our ordering pleasure (which is not necessarily the pleasure of our wallets). It was neat to happen onto their new 1946 Chevy Suburban (see pictures below). Oddly enough, the next day after I found this website I received a catalog in the mail from the Danbury Mint. Amazingly, within the catalog was a 1946 Chevy Suburban. Are these two companies actually separate, or are they selling the same product under two separate names, or are they sharing their engineering drawings, or what? It seem strange to me… Anyway, check out the website.

The Big Blue Car
http://www.kustoms.com/bbc/
This website features 50's Style Kustoms. In the words of the website owner, Mel: "The pages are presented out of passion and are intended for enjoyment and broad spectrum insight to the hobby and art form of Kustom cars. The information on the pages is not intended to be directly instructive, but to allow the reader an overview of the hobby and in some cases give information of historical nature."
There are many links to websites featuring many pictures of all types of Kustoms, Events, Drawings, Movies, Kustom Definitions / Terms, Swap Meet and Models. If you love Kustoms, you should check out this website…

ARTWORK
by Tom Dillion
As most of you know by now, I just love Car Artwork. Artists such as Harry
Bradley, Thom Taylor, Steve Stanford, Darrel Mayabb, Dave Bell, Jairus Watson
and our own Sean Svendsen, etc. are inspiring to me as well as many others.
They inspire many car builders (both 1:1 and model) to modify cars the auto
manufacturers produce into something a little more pleasing.
At least half of the membership does not have access to the internet, so I am
including Sean's artwork here for your viewing pleasure and maybe some
inspiration. By the way, this artwork is featured on our club website.
