I don't know about you, but I've been busy. I have been working a lot. Whoever said that the economy was in a downturn was sadly mistaken. I haven't seen a slow down in the architectural business; as a matter of fact, it has picked up in volume. I hope that everyone that participated in May's auction had a good time. I know that I did. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank those of you who donated old plastic to the cause. As well as the auction went, I think that it should be something that we do annually. Many thanks to Tim Fox on his excellent meat & cheese tray...oops! I mean auctioneering skills. The auction wouldn't be the same without Tim's 'brand' of humor thrown in. I would like to bring up the "BSAC Summer Gathering & Picnic" (yes, I named it myself!) We had briefly discussed a plan for a picnic in place of the typical August meeting. I don't think that this would have to take the place of our meeting, but could be an addition to our meeting. I think that a Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be perfect. As far as I know, there isn't anything going on (like Goodguy's!) in August. I would like to host this at my house. I have a grill, and maybe we could have a signup sheet and anyone who wants to attend could bring something. There is plenty of parking at the Elementary School behind my house. We also need to finalize plans for the Goodguys show. It is rapidly approaching. I'm sure Carl can fill us in more at the meeting. Gary could also tell us where to stay, maybe? (Just kidding!) Well, that's all I have for now. See you at the meeting! President Mike ************************************************* LAST MEETING'S MINUTES The May 2, 2002 edition of the BSAC was begun promptly around 8 pm. Those present included three guests; Dave Lamb, Jerry Hackney from Delaware and Marty (?) from Marysville. It was mentioned that Uncle Bill Aitchison was home from the hospital and was on the road to recovery. Carl Rees distributed the Same Kit Night '58 Plymouths to those members who were present. Jake Perry began a discussion regarding guest speakers. He was able to "land" Barbara Hamilton, a racer in the Gasser Class. However, the details on how to compensate a guest from out of the area were not finalized and further discussion is warranted. The topic of a club picnic was briefly discussed, led by Mike Newport. The idea was shelved for the moment. The BSAC Donation Auction was held for the remainder of the night. Winner of the Class of 60's theme was Bob Mako's '67 Mustang Cobra Jet. Winner of the Miscellaneous Class was guest Jerry Hackney's Batmobile, constructed from the Revell Futura kit. ************************************************* 2002 OFFICERS President: Mike Newport President-Elect: Tom Dillion II Treasurer: Carl Rees Secretary-Editor: Bob Mako ************************************************* BSAC WEBSITE http://bsac.topcities.com/ The following links have been added to the Favorite Links page. The links were supplied by Carl Rees, Sean Svendsen, Mike Newport and myself: Carl supplied a neat link to a website that includes '57 and '58 Plymouths (just in case you need ideas for your same kit project) at http://57and58plymouth1.homestead.com/58Belvedere1.html. Sean sent email stating "There have been lots of new additions to my web site, "Sven's World of Wheels" over the last months. If you get a chance check out all the latest stuff. http://www.prioritydesigns.com/sven/images/worldofwheels.html Mike Newport supplied a link to the Plastic Cowboy model truck website at http://www.plastic-cowboy.com. This website features many photos of models of the big rigs. If you would like to build a diorama in the future, how about building a diner? The following links take you to websites featuring diners in various condition and locations, http://www.oh-diners.com/ and http://www.geocities.com/cornwallace55/ Finally, if you are of the diecast persuasion, check out Diecast Alley at http://www.diecastalley.com. They carry fine diecasts from many manufacturers. For those of you that still cruise the internet and happen upon unique websites that you think the membership would enjoy viewing, please pass their links on to me so I can add them to our Favorite Links page. Thanks... Tom ************************************************* Letters to the Editor FLOWERS I've always been one of the more "frugal" club members that kind of thought sending flowers to ailing members might be just a little bit outside of the club's direction and purpose. So when that beautiful potted plant with all the colorful cut blossoms in it arrived at my hospital room I said to myself, "Geez, I hope they didn't spend too much on this; I'm just not a flower kind of guy". Later, I expressed these thoughts to my wife and she told me, "Don't see just the flowers, see the friendship and concern that they represent. Besides, a growing plant is something that will go home with us to brighten and add life as it nurtures and continues to grow." So then I started to look at them through different eyes. Next morning I woke just as the sun was coming over the horizon (when I say, "woke," I mean only to that semi-conscious stupor state that had gripped me for weeks). My ninth floor room faced to the west so the sun was not actually coming through the window but was reflecting off another shining glass building, then through the flowers and into my eyes. As I squinted to see just exactly what I was looking at, my eyes started to focus on the individual blossoms. I looked at one and saw Tim Fox with his impish grin; a tall sprig of something-or-other looked just like "Tommy the Deuce". Carl Rees was peeking out from behind something else. And there's Gary over there; and Bob Mako, too! In time, many different members appeared in different blossoms or combinations. In time, the cut flowers withered and died, but only after performing a valuable service to me. The potted plant itself came home with us of course, where it serves as a constant reminder to me of friendships as well as adding to my wife's horticultural pleasures. Yes, my thoughts about sending flowers have greatly changed, and I thank you all for a valuable lesson. See you when I can! Bill Aitchison Omen's O.M.S. In the past, our One Man Shows have been fairly extensive operations, where a Club member brings in a good part of his collection of built kits and we devote a portion of the meeting to the member and his models. I've already done an O.M.S. and it was a wonderful experience to tell all the stories behind each of the models that I displayed (yes, I did build a model on my Honeymoon!). I don't want to "Honk my horn" again, and most of you have detailed knowledge of all my stuff already. I wouldn't want to bore all of you again. Something has come up though, and I'd really like to have a special time to show it to you. I want to share with all of you a collection of cars that are all the same yet entirely different. They have all identical parts, yet they have nothing in common. Are you confused yet? Good. See you next Month. ************************************************* EDITOR'S NOTE Summer is nearly upon us. I know this because the kids are almost through with school and the end of the school year means extreme busy-ness with end of the year sports events, banquets, assemblies and concerts. Not to mention graduation ceremonies, which our family is experiencing for the second time. With all of this, it has been difficult to even think about modeling. Apparently, there are several more reissued kits on the shelf. I say apparently because I haven't stepped foot in a hobby store in over a month. Monogram's original '58 Thunderbird kit, with original custom parts supposedly is on the shelves, as well as AMT's '69 GTX convertible kit. These are a couple of good kits that haven't been out in awhile. The theme for this month is Mercs and Deuces. Since models of these cars have been out for seemingly forever, I'm guessing we all have some in our display cases. The table should be full, right? All for now! ************************************************* 2002 THEMES Jun - Mercs and Dueces (Saw this one in an old Scale Auto Enthusiast) Jul - Goodguys Drivers Aug - Mopars Sep - Tri-powers Oct - Vintage Race Cars Nov - Same Kit Night Elections Selection of Themes for 2003 Dec - Christmas Party ************************************************* COMING EVENTS...
